Max # of Colums? URGENT

It'd be great if anyone could help me: I need to import tons of data into excel xp (directly through an add-in from the data streaming program). BUT: The number of columns seems to be limited to 256. I'd require something in the range of 2000 - 4000. Does any of you guys know a way to solve this problem?
